The Department for Education has announced changes to Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) statutory guidance. These changes have come into effect from September 2020 and all schools are required to comply with the updated requirements.
In light of these changes, we have reviewed our PSHE curriculum and policy, so we can be sure our provision is appropriate for our pupils.

As a school, PSHE is considered a crucial part of the curriculum and underpins, along with the Christian Values, all aspects of school life. PSHE is the planned provision in schools for promoting the emotional, social and health development of children and young people. It includes:
- The acquisition of information on a range of health issues that are relevant to their age, maturity and understanding including emotional health and well-being, sex and relationships, diet and exercise, alcohol, tobacco and other drugs, careers and safety;
- The development of emotional and social skills, including skills for learning, achieving, managing change and looking after health;
- The exploration and clarification of values and beliefs including respect, morality and an understand of cultural diversity, including what it means to be British; and
- The children also learn about how to be an economically responsible citizen through the acquisition of skills to become financially capable.
Pupils are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities and experiences across and beyond the curriculum, contributing fully to the life of the school and community. In doing so, they learn to recognise their own worth, work well with others and become increasingly responsible for their own learning. They reflect on their experiences and understand how they are developing personally and socially, tackling many of the spiritual, moral, social and cultural issues that are part of growing up. They learn how society is organised and governed and they experience the process of democracy in school through the school council and eco council. We teach them about rights and responsibilities and they learn to appreciate what it means to be a positive member of a diverse multicultural society.
