Trips and Visits
At Leatherhead Trinity School, we believe that learning beyond the classroom is a vital part of inspiring learning and unlocking the future for all our pupils. Our trips, visitors, and workshops are carefully planned to enrich the curriculum, engage pupils, and provide memorable experiences that support their development.
Annual Trips and Visits
Each year group participates in three trips, visitors, or workshops annually—one each term. These experiences are designed to complement classroom learning and broaden pupils' perspectives.
- We aim to keep off-site trip costs affordable by using trains wherever possible, which helps reduce expenses significantly.
- The total cost for all three trips/visitors/workshops across the year is approximately £30. Some trips may be slightly more expensive, balanced by others that are less costly.
Examples of Trips and Visits
Our trips cover a wide range of educational and cultural experiences, including:
- Historic and Cultural Sites: Hampton Court Palace, Tower of London, Temples, Synagogues, Mosques, Fishbourne Roman Palace
- Museums: British Science Museum, Imperial War Museum, Natural History Museum, V&A Museum
- Local Trips: River Mole, Leatherhead Library, Bull Hill Park, Nower Wood, Fire and Iron Gallery
- Outdoor and Activity Centres: Chessington World of Adventures, Godstone or Bocketts Farm
These visits are chosen to enrich pupils’ understanding of history, science, culture, and the environment, connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences.
Workshops and Visitors
To further enhance learning, we also host engaging workshops such as:
- Science Dome: Immersive science experiences that bring curriculum topics to life.
- Djembe Drumming: Cultural music workshops that develop rhythm and teamwork.
- Historical Reenactments: Bringing history alive with interactive drama and role-play.
- VE Day Celebrations: Workshops that deepen understanding of key historical events.
- Chicks or Ducklings: A hatching project
- Leatherhead Fire Station
These workshops and visitors are linked carefully to the curriculum sequence to build knowledge and skills, ensuring pupils get the most out of each experience. We also focus on creating a lasting impact by embedding learning from trips and workshops into classroom activities.
Voluntary Contributions
We ask for voluntary contributions towards the cost of these trips to help us continue offering these valuable experiences. Here is how contributions work:
- Ideally, we ask families to contribute 100% of the cost of the trips.
- We understand that this may not always be possible, so contributions of 50%, 75%, or any amount are welcomed.
- If insufficient funds are raised, we reserve the right to cancel trips, as we cannot cover large shortfalls from the school budget. We never take the decision to cancel lightly, as we know how disappointing this is for the children.
- Families who wish to 'pay it forward' by contributing more than the requested amount are warmly encouraged to do so, helping to support other pupils.
Residential Trips
In addition to the termly trips, we offer two residential experiences:
- Year 5 Residential: Linked to history learning, this trip provides an immersive educational experience. This is usually a two-night residential.
- Year 6 Residential: An activity camp at PGL, designed to build confidence, teamwork, and resilience. This is a four-night residential.
These residentials are highlights of the school year and provide excellent opportunities for personal growth and social development.
