Collective Worship

Summer Term 2026

Collective worship takes place daily during the Summer Term, following a clear weekly pattern that reflects our Christian vision and supports pupils’ spiritual development:

  • Monday: Bible story and Diocese follow‑up themes
  • Tuesday: Current affairs (Newsround), language of the half term, author of the half term or other whole‑school focus, led by the Senior Leadership Team
  • Wednesday: Singing worship, led by the Senior Leadership Team
  • Thursday: Collective worship led by clergy, in partnership with the Diocese
  • Friday: Celebration worship, led by the Senior Leadership Team

Timing:

  • Collective worship normally takes place at 10.05am
  • Wednesday singing worship takes place at 2.55pm, which is being trialled during this term.

“Collective worship helps me think, feel calm, and treat people better.”

Collective Worship at Leatherhead Trinity School and Nursery

Collective worship is the beating heart of our school life at Leatherhead Trinity. Each day, we come together as a school family to pause, reflect and explore what the Bible teaches us, sharing moments of prayer, stillness and song.

Our collective worship is distinctively Christian, inclusive and invitational. Rooted in our school vision,
“All things are possible for one who believes” (Mark 9:23), worship encourages pupils and adults to think deeply about hope, belief and how we live well together. We are clear about what Christians believe, while creating a welcoming space where everyone – of all faiths and none – feels respected and included.

Worship themes are drawn from:

  • The Bible and the life and teachings of Jesus
  • Our Christian values of Respect, Love, Truth, Forgiveness and Commitment
  • The Christian calendar and major festivals
  • Opportunities to celebrate diversity and learn about other faiths

We value collective worship as a time for spiritual development, helping pupils explore:

  • Self – feelings, choices and identity
  • Others – compassion, justice and relationships
  • Beyond – God, meaning, awe and wonder

Acts of worship are led by school leaders, teachers, pupils and clergy, with strong links to our local churches. Children are also given opportunities to contribute to and lead worship, helping them grow in confidence, reflection and responsibility.

Parents have the legal right to withdraw their child from collective worship should they wish, and the school works sensitively with families in line with statutory guidance.

Through collective worship, we aim to nurture a community where everyone feels valued, known and encouraged to flourish.

Our Use of the Bible Timeline

Collective worship at Leatherhead Trinity is shaped around a Bible timeline, which enables pupils and adults to engage meaningfully with the Christian story as a coherent and unfolding narrative. This intentional, chronological approach helps worship to be distinctively Christian, rooted in scripture, and reflective of God’s relationship with the world over time.

Using the Bible timeline supports spiritual flourishing by giving pupils regular opportunities to reflect on:

  • Self – their own feelings, identity, choices and sense of purpose
  • Others – compassion, justice, forgiveness and relationships
  • Beyond – God, faith, meaning and transcendence

By revisiting key biblical themes and stories within their wider context, pupils are supported to explore big questions, experience moments of awe and reflection, and make thoughtful connections between the Christian faith and life today. This approach to collective worship is inclusive and invitational, encouraging all pupils, whatever their background or beliefs, to engage, reflect and grow spiritually.
