Autumn Term

Welcome to the start of the Autumn Term.

We hope you had a wonderful break over the summer and are looking forward to beginning another year of exciting learning.

Our topic this half term is 'What is life like on the Isle of Struay?'

We will investigate the human and physical features of islands and learn about health and growth.

After half term we will learn about Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Elizabeth II.

Visits & Visitors

This half term we will be receiving a visit from a Scottish gentleman who will do an illustrated talk on life in Scotland and the Shetland Isles. As part of our topic on 'Health and Growth', the children will have the opportunity to meet a baby/toddler and ask the parent questions. We will also have a visit from the school nurse to learn about personal health and hygiene.

After half term, we will visit Polesden Lacey to see the house at Christmas and to make Christmas crafts.

  • Daily Reading: Please read with your child daily at home and record their progress in their Reading Record. It is important that your child understands what they are reading so please try to question them about the book. If you would like examples of suitable questions, please ask. A weekly reading certificate will be awarded to every child who reads at home every evening.

  • Home Learning: This is still given out on a Friday and must be returned to school by the following Wednesday.  Home learning is an essential part of Year 2. Each week your child will receive one piece of literacy, one piece of numeracy, spellings and Mathletics tasks.

  • PE Kit: This year PE is on a Tuesday and Thursday. Your child should have their PE kit in school as this is an essential part of the National Curriculum. In order to ensure all children remain safe during PE sessions, all earrings must be removed.
