Daily reading

Reading records and reading books must be brought into school every day.

A member of staff checks all reading records daily in the morning and you can really help us to improve the standard of reading by encouraging your child to read daily.  Children are also given the opportunity to change their books daily.

Twenty minutes a day will really help set your child up for future success in life.  It is extremely beneficial to read with your child, and check for understanding.  Questions you could ask include:

  • What has happened in the story so far?
  • What do you think is going to happen next?
  • What do you think of the characters? Are they nice?
  • Do you like the book? Why
  • Ask your child to scan the book for a specific answer to a question eg What was the name of the monster who lived in the cave?

Please record on what your child has read and then initial this every day.
